The student counsellor supports UvA students with advice and information. Everything that is discussed with the student counsellor is confidential.
A student counsellor supports, provides advice and informs students. You can ask questions or have problems that are not directly related to the curriculum (the content of your study programme), but to you as a person. Consultations with a student counsellor are confidential.
Your study adviser can refer you to a student counsellor. You don’t need to have a study adviser’s referral, though, as you can also contact a student counsellor directly.
Don't wait too long to contact us. The sooner we know about your situation, the greater the chance that we can advise you adequately. You can call, email or make an appointment. Due to the corona crisis, this will currently not be an on-site appointment, but an appointment bij telephone or Skype.
There may be special circumstances that influence your study progress, regardless of whether you have yet to start your study programme or have been studying for a while now. In case of these circumstances you can, if you need or want to, talk to a student counsellor confidentially. Circumstances are for example top-class athletics, a disability for which you need specific adaptations to enable studying, illness, pregnancy or parenthood and family circumstances (e.g. informal caregiving).
You can contact a student counsellor for assistance with applying for several facilities. A student counsellor can help you with:
Studying from home might turn out not to be that easy. How can you make sure that you stick to the hours you had planned? What does it take to stay focussed, so you can close your books and laptop satisfied at the end of the day? How do you stay connected to your studies and your fellow students? And how do you cope with feelings of loneliness?
Discuss your situation with other students
During the corona crisis, you can share your situation with a small group of fellow students (with a maximum of 5). A student counsellor moderates the session. With your fellow students, you will share tips and look at possible solutions.
The chat sessions are on Tuesday and Wednesday between 09:00-10:00 via Zoom (download the instruction manual).
Do you want to register and there no short-term place available? Let us know via firstname.lastname@example.org. We may then be able to expand the offer.
