NICE online course and summer school

The Network for Intercultural Competence & Entrepreneurship (NICE) is a multi-university collaboration to help you develop intercultural competence and entrepreneurial skills.

What can you expect from the programme?

The programme consists of a three-month virtual learning journey in which you'll be educated on intercultural competences and entrepreneurial skills. Together with students from across Europe you will learn how to apply these skills and work in a transnational team to solve a global challenge, such as climate action, health and wellbeing, or clean and efficient energy. The content of the course aims to empower you with self-efficacy, effective team working and leadership skills. Prepare yourself for a changing job market with this challenging course and learn to work in an international setting with confidence!

In addition to the NICE online course, all UvA students will participate in group meetings on campus in the elective “Building Bridges for Local-Global Challenges” at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies. The program culminates in an optional Summer School at one of the partner universities in July.

“If you want to learn new things, you need to step out of your comfort zone. NICE is a great way to do that, and easy to combine because you can do it from home" -- Tavi Kurda, 2020 NICE alumnus

For you?

This course is open to second-year and third-year UvA Bachelor's students and Master's students. You are welcome to apply, as long as you have an active enrollment with UvA during the entire programme. This programme is especially suitable for students whose opportunity to travel or study abroad is otherwise limited, such as students with specialized learning requirements, disabilities, caring responsibilities, financial need, and more.

When and where?

The NICE online course and the on-campus meetings run March through June. The optional summer school takes place in July.

How much time is required?

You should expect to spend an average of three to five hours per week on the online module and working with your team, and another three to five hours per week for the on-campus meetings and assessment.

What are the costs? And is a scholarship possible?

There are no costs for the virtual course or the on-campus meetings. In case of a physical summer school, part of the costs will be covered by the programme, and/or a scholarship opportunity.

Is this a credit-bearing programme?

Completing the “Building Bridges for Local-Global Challenges” course will earn you 6 ECTS. This course consists of the online NICE modules and the on-campus meetings.
