International jobs in the Netherlands

If you do not speak Dutch, it may seem difficult to find a job in the Netherlands as most job vacancies require Dutch language skills. However, the labour market in the Netherlands also has an international sector for which English is the business language and where an international background can be an advantage.

Career sectors: specific strategies for finding a job

Each career sector has its own unwritten rules when it comes to finding work and successfully applying for a job. Some sectors require a formal approach and application, while for other sector this method will not serve you well. For this reason, we will host four Career Talks that will each highlight a different career sector. At each Career Talk, alumni who work in the specific sectors will share inside information and provide helpful advice.

The events took place on four Thursdays in February and March, each focusing on a different career sector:

  1. PhD and Research - 2 February
  2. Culture and Creative Sector – 16 February
  3. Non-Profit and NGO‘s - 2 March
  4. Startup and SME's - 9 March

Which sector suits you best?

Whether you study IT, marketing, HRM, finance, English, communication or a different subject, it’s up to you to craft a career that incorporates your personal interests, motivation and skills. Perhaps you are interested in doing a PhD, inspired by the energy in the start-up scene, determined to work in the non-profit sector or curious what the business sector holds for you.

Attending one or more Student-Alumni Career Talks will elucidate the differences between the sectors and help you find out what suits you best.

All international UvA students who are exploring the job market and considering their careers path are invited to join this session.
